When I move, can I take my system with me?

Although taking your solar panels, inverter, and battery with you when you move house is possible, we don't recommend it. This is because:

  • It can be expensive. To relocate your system, you'll need to pay an accredited installer to remove the system and rewire your current home, and install the system at your new home.
  • There are compliance challenges. To install your system at your new home, you'll need to ensure it complies with the latest installation standards, which may involve upgrades and additional expenses.
  • You won't get access to federal and state rebates. Federal and state rebates and incentives usually only apply to new solar systems, so you'll miss out on potential financial benefits.

In addition, if you're selling your house before moving, there's a key benefit to leaving your system where it is. Market research indicates that sustainability features, such as solar panels, are increasingly attractive to potential property buyers, so it may be in your best interest to leave the system in place to maximise its impact on your property's value.
